In an attempt to secure Walsall's future as a League One side manager Paul Merson has now made 5 new signings. Hopefully this will give us the boost we need.

Last week saw the introduction of experienced shot stopper Andy Oakes. Oakes is now the fifth goalkeeper that Merson has tried this season with Paston, McKinney and Murphy all failing to impress. Merson wanted to take the burden and pressure off young Coleman so this seems to be an excellent signing. The good news is, he has signed up for next season as well.

Yesterday, Merson announced the introduction of a young midfielder from Coventry. Pead has not played much this term but is reported to have some fire in his belly. This is potentially another good signing.

Today has seen the arrival of three new players all signed on loan until the end of the season. With Julian Bennett injured Merson has strengthened at the heart of defence bringing in 19 year old Gerrard from everton.

This has been followed up with the announcement that 25 year old Perpetuini has joined us from Gillingham (presumably to replace the departed Aranalde). Again, our Spanish left back was something of an enigma. Hopeless as a footballer but still adored by the fans for his effort. A replacement was seriously needed and Merson has delivered.

Finally, Merson has bolstered his attacking options with the capture of 30 year old Julian Joachim from Leeds United.

Hopefully he has now found the magic formula to drag us away from the relegation zone. Here's to an enjoyable end of season run in.
