BIRCH FINDS CLUB
Former front man Gary Birch has been snapped up by Lincoln City. Birch was released by the Harriers following their relegation to the Nationwide Conference. Lincoln will be looking for promotion during the forthcoming season following a series of near misses during the last few seasons.
Birch will replace popular striker Simon Yeo who is heading down under to join the Auckland Knights, where he'll find himself in the company of Danny Hay, Darren Bazeley and Neil Emblen. Whether Birch will be as prolific as Yeo remains to be seen, but his current record will have to improve dramatically to match Yeo's record of 37 goals in 73 Lincoln starts.

STAN STILL FREE
The Express and Star reports that Coventry defender Steve Staunton is wanted by Walsall boss Paul Merson. His ability to play anywhere across the back 4 while also taking up coaching duties behind the scenes would make him a valuable squad member.
It isn't the first time we've tabled a bid for the former Liverpool man. Colin Lee offered him a deal at the start of 03/04, a deal that Staunton turned down to join the Sky Blues. If Merse is looking for an old pal to take up coaching duties i hear that Paul Gascoigne is looking for a job at the moment. This deal will hinge on Staunton accepting the deal Coventry have put on the table

WESTWOOD COMPETITION
Our quest to secure the services of Dudley born defender Chris Westwood could well be hijacked by rival clubs. Both Luton Town and Nottingham Forest are said to have shown an interest in the Hartlepool defender who is yet to sign a new deal with the Victoria Park Club.
The appointment of Martin Scott as Pools manager could help bring this Rumour to a close within the next week. Scott had been appointed Caretaker manager following the departure of Neale Cooper.
STILL NO WRACK NEWS
There is still a lack of news on the Darren Wrack front. Preston North End are reported to be interested, but the prospect of a deal seems to hinge on future of their American Winger Eddie Lewis.
The news that manager Billy Davies is set to stay at the Club despite being linked with other managerial posts could mean a conclusion to this one isn't all that far away.
