Saddlers match against Tranmere has been moved to a Friday night. Merseyside Police are worried that Saddlers and Villa fans will clash on the rail network!!
It would appear that Merseyside police have lost the plot.
Saddlers game against Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park will be played on Friday March 17th, (Kick Off 7.45 pm.)
This in itself is no big deal. However, the explanation given by the Merseyside Police for the switch is quite astonishing. Ray Newnes, the Football Officer for Merseyside Police has explained that they are concerned about the possibility of disorder between Walsall and Villa fans travelling to Merseyside on the same trains!!
Do me a favour.
The original explanation that they didn’t have the resources to cover the Everton Vs Villa clash as well as our match against Tranmere would have sufficed.
During pre-season we regularly welcome the Villa to Bescot trouble free. If the Villa fans can't get a ticket they usually come and join the home support. I can only conclude that we must transform ourselves into bitter rivals when the season starts!
In the meantime Saddlers have rejected proposals from Swansea, Hartlepool and Southend to switch their Saddlers fixtures to a Friday night. The explanation given for rejecting the proposals was the inconvenience it would cause us fans. Hmm!
