What else was going on in the year that our Club was? "1888 and all that" takes a look back at which key invention was patented in 1888...
We all love our music, and 1888 was the year that German Inventor Emile Berliner first patented the Gramophone.
He wasn't all German though, as he moved to the United States where he furthered his interest in the telephone, phonograph and other gadgets that helped him on his way.
It was Berliner who developed the idea of recording sounds on to a disc. An idea, which to this today forms the backbone of the Music Industry.
He didn't do it all on his own. Engineer Eldridge Johnson and a number of investing businessmen all helped him on his way.
Emile Berliner and 1888 will always be synonymous with the birth of the recording industry.
From our point of view we might think that 1888 was all about the establishment of Walsall FC, but to those people whose passion is music, this is probably more important.
