Levein's plans hit by call offs

Eight of Levein’s original 20-man squad for the clash at Pittodrie are doubtful following Saturday's league fixtures.

Wigan defender Gary Caldwell and Blackpool goalkeeper Matthew Gilks were taken off in their respective games.

 

Christophe Berra was injured in the Wolves warm-up, while Alan Hutton, James Morrison, Chris Burke, Graham Dorrans and Steven Naismith are doubts.

 

Dundee United central defender and Blackpool full-back Stephen Crainey have been called in as several withdrawals are anticipated.

 

Kenneth made his only Scotland appearance in a 3-0 friendly defeat to Sweden in August, while Crainey returns to the international fold after an absence of more than six years.

 

Crainey won the last of his six caps in a friendly loss to Denmark in April 2004, while playing for Celtic.

 

The inclusion of Kenneth seems a strange one, given how poor he was against Sweden earlier this season. While he plays for United every week, his form has hardly been impressive in those games.

 

Even against the Faroes I would worry about a Wilson/Kenneth defensive partnership, and this is not necessarily the partner needed for a youngster making his debut.

 

It would appear Levein has caught the bug of other Scotland bosses and picking players based upon either who they play for or the League they are playing in!

 

On the flip side of that the manager appears to have developed a problem with Stephen Fletcher, who looked impressive in the highlights of the Wolves game yesterday.
