The Scottish Cup third round producd some exciting ties, with Second Division Airdrie almost being knocked out by non League Beith Juniors amongst the highlights.

Airdrie v Beith

 

Junior side Beith almost shocked Second Division Airdrie but James Bain's injury-time strike spared Second Division Airdrie's blushes to earn a Scottish Cup third-round replay.

 

The visitors took the lead in the 32nd minute through Brian McKeown after he collected Martin Stewart's pass. Beith made it two when Kenneth McLean drilled home but Mark McShane was later sent off for dissent.

 

Paul Lovering's header reduced the deficit and Bain's rasping drive saw Airdrie equalise deep into injury-time.

 

Ayr United v Sunnbank

 

Sunnybank couldn’t repeat their exploits of the Second Round when they were crushed five nil at Somerset Park in the Third Round.

 

Stuart Bannigan put the Division Two side in front in the 44th minute with a fine strike from 12 yards and Mark Roberts netted a penalty soon after.

 

Roberts added his second of the day in the 74th minute, again from the spot, before Williams Steel and Steven Bartlett were dismissed for Sunnybank.

 

Andy Rodgers fired a late brace to compound the non-league side's agony.

 

Bo’ness United v Buckie Thistle

 

Highland League Buckie proved too strong for Junior side Bo’ness in the third round of the Scottish Cup, as Martin Charlesworth scored twice to seal the win.

 

The Buckie striker opened the scoring in the fifth minute to put his side in control of the tie.

 

The Highland League champions were largely dominant throughout and Charlesworth added his and Buckie's second after the break.

 

The visitors were missing top scorer Ian Murray but Charlesworth's predatory finishing saw them progress.

 

Ross County v Deveronvale.

 

Last season’s beaten finalists, Ross County, progressed to the next round with a comfortable 4-1 win over Highland League minnows Deveronvale.

 

The Staggies took the lead after 28 minutes as Gary Miller converted Iain Virgus' corner before Andrew Barrowman doubled the lead from close range.

 

Fifteen minutes after the break Steven Craig gave County a three-goal cushion.

 

Mike McKenzie scored a consolation penalty and County's Paul Lawson was sent off before Barrowman's second.

 

Other third round winners; Alloa, Berwick Rangers, Morton, East Fife, Elgin City, Montrose, Peterhead, East Stirling, Partick Thistle and Girvan. There are two other replays, Brechin v Annan and Stenhousemuir v Threave.

 

The draw for the fourth round takes place on Monday at 11:30am and will be shown on Sky Sports News. The fourth round sees the top sides in the First Division join the twelve SPL sides for the ties to be played on 8^th January.
