Clubs looking to the future as they extend contracts

Three clubs are looking to hold on to key players with Dundee Utd extending the contract of Mihael Kovacevic, Aberdeen have done the same with young striker Mitchel Megginson. Over at Killie they have started talks with keeper Cammy Bell

At Tannadice, Injured defender Mihael Kovacevic has agreed a short-term contract extension to stay with Dundee United until the end of the season.

The 22-year-old Swiss has not appeared for the Tannadice side this season because of a knee ligament injury.

Kovacevic had picked up the injury while on holiday during the summer.

But manager Peter Houston said: "This extension gives him the opportunity to prove his fitness and get back to playing regularly for the first team."

Scotland youth striker Mitchel Megginson has signed a two-year contract extension with Aberdeen.

The 18-year-old made his Dons debut in August 2009 against Sigma Olomouc in the Europa League but ended the season on loan to Arbroath in Division Two.

He scored three goals in five appearances for the Red Lichties and three more for Scotland Under-17s. And this season he made seven appearances for the Dons first-team, mainly from the substitutes' bench.

Kilmarnock manager Mixu Paatelainen has revealed discussions have begun over a new deal for Cameron Bell. The goalkeeper has been at Rugby Park since 2003 but his current contract expires at the end of the season.

Paatelainen is desperate to tie him down to fresh terms and is happy that the 24-year-old wants to commit his future to the club. "We're talking to Cammy and both parties are willing to extend his stay," said Paatelainen in the Daily Record.

"It's important we keep him."
