Motherwell forced to apologise to local council

After reports in the National Press this morning with regard to the cost of hiring the Ravenscraig Sports facility Motherwell have been forced to apologise to North Lanarkshire Council over the matter.

The Newspaper stories this morning had Craig Brown lamenting his players had to travel to Toryglen due to the cost of hiring the local Ravenscraig facility which is literally round the corner from Fir Park.

 

There is little doubt this was a throw away comment from the normally media astute Motherwell boss that has been taken out of context and twisted by the press.

 

A club statement had Manager Craig Brown saying, “The team are chomping at the bit following last Sunday’s postponement and emotions were running high yesterday with everyone desperate to train in spite of the recent inclement weather.

 

“However, those frustrations should not have been taken out on North Lanarkshire Leisure, or the Council, and, as a club, we wish to make clear our unreserved apology that a minor situation has been blown out of all proportion.”

 

I am not sure Motherwell owe NLC or Ravenscraig any apology if indeed the cost is prohibitive. The council should be looking to help their local club given the boost to the local economy they can bring if they are successful.

 

If an apology was needed it could have been handled behind closed doors and saved the club more embarrassment.
