SFL Clubs seek compensation

After last week’s cancellations due to the referee’s strike action SFL clubs are looking for financial help from the SFA.

The SFA are responsible for supplying refs for all competitions in Scotland but they failed to do this last week with only four SPL games going ahead.

It is also ironic that the club who caused much of the problems in the first place, Celtic, saw their game go ahead while innocent clubs were forced to call their game off.

In Fife the derby between Cowdenbeath and Dunfermline would have attracted a “bumper” crowd on a Saturday but will see numbers dwindle in a midweek re-arrangement.

Sitling Albion were due to play at home to Partick Thistle, and they reckon this has cost them £10000, a sum that could see them in deep financial trouble.

The problem would seem to be the SFL have no formal contract with the SFA and as a result may have no claim, although the SPL does have a contract which maybe forced the hand of the SFA.

It felt wrong last week and it feels wrong now that the smaller clubs outside the SPL were treated the way they were last week and I think they deserve some form of compensation.
