Slow week for the Sunday papers

With no games yesterday the Sunday papers have turned their attention to transfer rumours ahead of the January transfer window.

As usual the Old Firm are linked with a long list of players in and out!

There are stories linking a couple of Old Firm players with a move to Italy with AC Milan thinking about a move for Rangers striker Kenny Miller as cover for the injured Filippo Inzaghi.

While Juventus and Inter Milan are set to battle it out for the £5m signature of Celtic midfielder Scott Brown when the transfer window opens in January. Why they would do that when he hasn’t kicked a ball for weeks (and some would argue a couple of seasons) seems a bit strange.

Rumours for players heading the other way include Celtic considering a move for Aston Villa’s Stephen Ireland. They are also meant to be contemplating a move for Nottingham Forest’s Kelvin Wilson, although a fee would be required for the defende.

The Parkhead club are likely to miss out on long term target Belgian striker Yassine El Ghanassy after he insisted he will stay at Gent until the end of the season.

Not surprisingly Rangers manager Walter Smith has ruled out a return to Ibrox for Middlesbrough striker Kris Boyd. But they are reported to be interesting in picking up Stoke City's Michael Tonge on the cheap in January after the winger's loan spell with Preston North End.

Although in most papers Walter Smith has been quoted as saying there is no money to bring anyone in, that would probably rule out the move for Tonge.

There is further interest from Italy in one other Rangers player with Madjid Bougherra rumoured to be a £5 million target for Roma, a move which could fund the movement of players in at Ibrox.

The only surprise is there was no Robbie Keane for Celtic story in amongst all of this!

It is also a major source of amusement for me when the rumours come out that none concern the other ten clubs, and how few of them actually come true. I guess if you float out so many some are bound to come true and you can then say as revealed here…..
