Senior MP upsets SFA Chief

A senior Labour MP has caused a bit of a stooshy with the SFA this week as he called for immediate SFA reform.

Jim Sheridan is a key member of Westminster's powerful Culture, Media and Sports Select Committee. The representative for Paisley and Renfrewshire North has written to Hampden chiefs demanding an independent review of football in Scotland.

The crux of his argument seem him looking for an independent review of the structures at the SFA and also believes it is time refereeing conspiracies were put to bed.

While his sentiment seems to be fair enough, it does smack of jumping on the band wagon in the light of recent events rather than genuine concern.

It has prompted SFA Chief Stewart Regan to publish one of his weekly statements via the SFA Website refuting everything Sheridan has to say.

He points out Henry McLeish is already carrying out an independent review and that he himself has promised a review of the SFA structures and the idea he is working on to create a referee’s charter.

The final paragraph in the statement is interesting, “I am also interested to hear more on the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee’s renewed interest in Scottish football, and am especially keen to find out what level of support they are able to offer the game going forward.”

This for me gives the impression Regan would like to be allowed to get on with his job without politicians latching on to football at ever opportunity.
