Celtic could only take a point at home to Killie, but it too a late equaliser to deny the Ayrshire side their first Celtic Park win in 55 years!
The home side dominated the first half and it looked as though it would only be a matter of time before they took the lead. But Killie keeper Cammy Bell was only called into action a couple of times to deny McGinn.
Killie took the lead at the start of the second half when Connor Sammon, the surprise package of the season so far, scored his 15th goal of the season. He was released Mehdi Taouil after he had been sent on his way by Bell and Sammon was left to beat Foster with ease.
The Ayrshire men looked to be heading for an historic win but with only five minutes left on the clock Thomas Rogne headed a Ki free kick into the net off the inside of the post.
This is Celtic’s third home draw in a row and leaves them two points behind Rangers with a game more played as we head into the busy holiday programme. On the other hand Killie keep up their impressive run under Mixu Pataaileinen.
This means Rangers will have the psychological advantage of being top of the table at Christmas while Neil Lennon will be worried about how he changes things in January to stop this run of dropped points.
The game was played out in sub zero temperatures in one of the coldest spells Scotland has ever seen. This led to Celtic Park being only just under half full – maybe a message to those looking at the changes being made in Scottish football!
