Celtic move to top ahead of Old Firm game.

Celtic’s narrow 1-0 win over Motherwell moves them to top of the SPL table ahead of Sunday’s Old Firm game, while at the bottom Hamilton Accies are now 6 points adrift after defeat to Aberdeen.

Celtic should have been well ahead by half time after dominating the opening 45 minutes. All they had to show for their efforts was a Paddy McCourt goal after 27 minutes, a well struck shot from the edge of the box leaving Randolph helpless.

 

They struggled to find any rhythm in the second half and barely created any further chances to bury Motherwell.

 

The closing stages were made even more difficult for the home side with Scott Brown picking up a stupid second yellow card which will see him miss the Old Firm game on Sunday.

 

Motherwell were watched by their potential new Manager, Stewart McCall, who introduced himself to the players after the game.

 

Aberdeen’s impressive start under Craig Brown continued as they saw off Hamilton at New Douglas Park this afternoon.

 

A game that was full of endeavour but little quality appeared to be heading for a 0-0 draw until Scott Vernon snatched all three points in stoppage time.

 

Accies were five points behind Hibs at this stage, but the Edinburgh’s sides 2-2 draw with Dundee United saw them move six points clear of the bottom of the table.

 

Elsewhere Hearts took firm control of third with a 2-0 win over St. Mirren at New St Mirren Park, while Kilmarnock kept up their impressive run of form and moved into fourth with a 3-1 win at Inverness.
