Rebel 4 out to scupper SPL contraction plans

Four SPL clubs have come out today and said they will not vote for the reduction of the League to 10 teams as discussed yesterday at Hampden.

The clubs are; Dundee United, Hearts, Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Kilmarnock. Not surprisingly all four were not represented in the Strategy group that came up with the idea of a ten team League in the first place.

United Chairman Stephen Thompson has stated he is against the idea of a top ten League in principle from a footballing point of view. He feels it is turning the clock back to a League that stunted the growth of young players and fears this will happen again.

Inverness were surprised the Strategy group has proposed a smaller League when they had been led to believe the idea was to increase the League.

They have also stated the opinions of their fans are important and having seen the results of recent surveys feel this is the wrong way to go and the fans need to be listened to.

This would be enough to make sure the vote would not go through as it takes an 11-1 majority to make it happen.

This seems like good sense to me and if this proposal is rejected by these four clubs then it will give everyone time to take stock and have a look at the alternatives for a bigger League.
