Interesting day in the Scottish Cup

There were no major shocks today but a few SPL sides were held at home setting up tricky replays.

One result that could be seen as a shock was Hamilton Accies winning at home for the first time this season when they saw off Second Division Alloa by two goals to nil.

They were one ahead at the break thanks to a goal from returning Nigel Hasselbaink, then a second half stoppage time strike from Flavio Paxaio sealed the win.

Three SPL Sides were held to goalless draws and face tricky replays. In the repeat of last season’s final between Dundee Utd and Ross Co ended goalless, as did Ayr on their visit to Easter Rd and also St. Mirren at home to Peterhead.

The most emphatic win of the day was at Pittodrie, where Aberdeen were four up at the break thanks to a McGuire hat trick and one from Vernon. Vernon added a fifth in the second half before Mageniss completed the rout in stoppage time.

The most exciting tie of the day was at Links Park where it looked as though Montrose would knock out First Division Leaders Dunfermline. Paul Tosh’s 26^th minute strike had the home side in the lead until Clarke equalised in the 73^rd minute. It looked as though Montrose were out when Andy Kirk put the Pars in the lead late on, but they secured a replay when Tosh scored his second in stoppage time.

The final game of the day saw a comfortable win for Inverness at home to Elgin City, although it took two goals in second half stoppage time to seal the win. The goals coming from Sanchez and Rooney.
