Celtic held at Hamilton as United win easily

Celtic drew with Hamilton in a game with three red cards, while Dundee United recorded a comfortable win over Motherwell.

Celtic salvaged a point thanks to a late penalty in an action packed match with Hamilton at New Douglas Park.

Accies took the lead through Simon Mensing with Martin Canning seemingly in an offside position standing in front of keeper Foster.

Referee Willie Collum dismissed Celtic's James Forrest and Hamilton's Jim McAllister after the break for a couple of wild tackles. The Accies sub was only on the pitch for 35 seconds.

Mensing also saw red for a foul in the box, Anthony Stokes converting from the spot before having a goal disallowed deep into injury time. The Parkhead side now sit five points clear of arch-rivals Rangers, but the Ibrox side have three games in hand.

Once again Neil Lennon was left complaining about decisions by officials, rather than focussing on his sides failure to win against the team at the bottom of the table.

Dundee United claimed victory in their first home league match since November as Stuart McCall suffered his first defeat as Motherwell manager.

Johnny Russell struck the post with a long-range shot during a promising opening spell by the hosts, with visiting keeper Randolph the busiest man on the park in the opening half.

And it was Russell who broke the deadlock with a header on 53 minutes, when Kenneth headed a Dixon corner back into the danger area.

Motherwell came close when Chris Humphrey's header was blocked by keeper Dusan Pernis before David Goodwillie sealed United's win late on.

The win moves the Tangerines up to seventh in the Scottish Premier League, level on points with Motherwell who have played two games more.
