A real shock in the Scottish Cup at last….

Second Division Ayr United caused a real upset when they made sure Hibs will have to wait 110 years before winning the Scottish Cup again with a 1-0 win at Somerset Park tonight.

Hibs shuffled the pack after the defeat to Celtic at the weekend with a number of the changes to the team as Colin Calderwood struggles to come up with the correct formula for his side.

Ayr scored the vital goal in the 19th minute when veteran striker Mark Roberts twisted and turned inside the box before side footing past keeper Graeme Smith.

Hibs did create a couple of chances before the break with John Rankin being denied by the keeper, Crawford and then Derek Riordan saw a shot cleared off the line.

The Edinburgh side huffed and puffed in the second half but the home side held on for a well deserved victory over the two games and progress for a home tie with St. Mirren.

The Paisley side progressed to the tie with Ayr with a 6-1 win at Peterhead, including a hat trick from Paul McGowan.

There was almost another shock with holders Dundee United only progressing on penalties against Ross County. Keeper Steve Banks was the hero saving two of the Staggies spot kicks to see his side progress.

The remainder of the ties went as expected with Dunfermline beating Montrose 5-3 and Partick Thistle winning at home by a goal to nil at Firhill.

The two Fourth Round ties that were being played for the first time went to replays with Morton coming back from two goals down to draw with Airdrie. In the other tie Stenhousemuir and Stranraer will have to play again after a goalless draw at Ochilview.

The revised draw is;

Aberdeen v Dunfermline Athletic

Inverness Caledonian Thistle v Greenock Morton OR Airdrie United

Hamilton Academical v Dundee United

Stenhousemuir OR Stranraer v Motherwell

East Stirlingshire OR Buckie Thistle v Brechin City

Rangers v Celtic

Ayr United v St Mirren

St. Johnstone v Partick Thistle
