Anyone for a winter break

One of the major discussion points on the agenda for SPL reconstruction is a winter break, well, second division Forfar have already had one this season.

With the teams in the SPL discussing a winter break there have been many who have had one already this season, Forfar Athletic have returned to action tonight at Dumbarton after a 66 day break!

The Loons played their last game back on 20^th November in the Scottish Cup in a 1-3 defeat to East Fife.

Since then they have been scheduled to play TEN games, all of which have been postponed. Five of them were due to be played at home, and one was also due to be played against Airdrie on their 3G surface but even that and the surrounding areas couldn’t beat the deep freeze.

While the players may be refreshed after their enforced break there is every likelihood this will be like starting a new season all over again. Also on the down side is the fact they will now have 23 games to play between now and the end of the season.

There are now only fifteen weeks to go, therefore the Station Park side will be in action most midweeks and will be keeping their fingers crossed there is no more bad weather which would stretch their resources even further.

With five home games postponed their resources will already be stretched with no gate money coming in during that spell.

The break doesn’t appear to have caused them too many problems as they managed to win the game 2-1 after going a goal down in the first half. The win puts them seven points behind leaders Livingston with two games in hand, but will all of this catch up with them!!
