No shocks in Scottish Cup

The five ties that went ahead today provided no more shocks with all the teams expected going through making it to the Quarters.

All five ties that went ahead, St. Johnstone v Partick Thistle was cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch, and ended up with the winners that were expected.

Somerset Park was seen as the likely venue for a shock after home side Ayr United had seen off SPL Hibs in the previous round. Two goals in the first half meant visitors St. Mirren would not face the same problems.

The goals were scored after only seven minutes and then just before the break by Craig Dargo. The hosts were still in it thanks to a Mark Roberts penalty on 58 minutes but the SPL side held on to progress.

Another game where a shock was anticipated was Inverness v Morton, but once again two first half goals were the platform for the win for the SPL side. Foran and Rooney scored before the break. Just after the break debutant Chris Hogg scored, before Rooney and Foran added another two. Morton’s consolation from Lyle came with only seven minutes left.

Another David v Goliath match was at Stranraer with the home side hosting Motherwell. The SPL side made hard work of a two goal win, with Jones scoring just before the break and then Sutton making it two in the final ten minutes.

The holders are also through, with Dundee United winning comfortably by three goals to win at Hamilton. United were two up at the break thanks to Daly and Dixon. Antoine-Curier pulled one back but the fightback was halted when Buaben made it three one.

The last non-league side were knocked out when Buckie Thistle lost 0-2 to Brechin of the Second Division. Once again the two goals came in the first half through McKenna and McAllister.

This puts five teams, Dundee United, Motherwell, St. Mirren, Inverness and Brechin, through to the Quarter Final draw tomorrow. The draw will take place immediately after the Old Firm Fifth Round tie at Ibrox.
