Scottish Cup round up for Sunday

Two more ties were played in the Scottish Cup this afternoon with the draw for the Quarter Finals sandwiched in between.

The afternoon started with the Old Firm tie at Ibrox, in what turned out to be a game with a bit of everything!

Rangers started the better side and deservedly took the lead through Ness’s stunning 25 yard strike. They could have been two ahead minutes later when Davis hit the bar after excellent work from Jelavic.

Celtic then controlled long spells in the first half and deservedly equalised through Commons who netted from close range from a Ledley cross from the left.

The game erupted just before half time when Naismith tumbled under pressure from Foster in the Celtic box. The ref awarded a penalty and showed Foster a red card, surprisingly Neil Lennon felt the ref got both calls right – miracles will never cease!

Whittaker took the kick and left sub keeper Zaliukas (replacing Commons) no chance as he drilled it low to the keeper’s right.

Despite being down to ten men Celtic dominated the second half and always looked the more likely to score again, and they did. Once again it was another super strike with Scott Brown bending a left foot shot in from 20 yards out.

There was more drama before the game finished with Naismith shown a red card when he picked up a second yellow for a dive as he tried to win a penalty.

They will now have to do it all again on 2nd March, in a season where they will play each other seven times in a season for the first time ever.

Not surprisingly the second game of the afternoon between Aberdeen and Dunfermline failed to match the drama of the Old Firm game.

In a game of precious few chances the game there was a sting in the tail with Maguire’s cross into the box being deflected into the net two minutes into stoppage time at the end of the game to seal a one nil win.

The full draw is;

Motherwell v Dundee Utd

Brechin City v St. Johnstone or Partick Thistle

Inverness v Rangers or Celtic

St. Mirren v Aberdeen

Ties to be played weekend of 12th or 13th March
