Poor old Brechin….shafted by TV

Our TV companies have shown their usual lack of imagination and stuck with live coverage of the SPL clubs in the Scottish Cup omitting to cover Brechin’s first trip to the Quarter Finals.

The TV games for the 6^th round of the Scottish Cup were announced yesterday and once again the two companies covering the games have played safe by covering the three games which are all SPL ties.

Once again the football public will be served up games we see all year round rather than the intriguing tie at Glebe Park where Brechin will play their first ever Quarter Final tie – surely this deserves come kind of reward??

Sky, of course, are heavily dependant upon the Scottish Cup that weekend given it coincides with the FA Cup which they do not have the rights for. Therefore they have an appetiser of Dundee Utd v Motherwell before their “big game” of Inverness v Rangers/Celtic.

No doubt this will be heavy on a repeat of the 1991 Cup Final ahead of the game at Tannadice. Then treating Inverness as the Old Firm slayers looking to gun them down once more.

When we know it is the fourth time out of six Motherwell will play United and gate prices have been reduced to £10 to make it attractive to the punters. While at Inverness it will be a tough game but the odds will still be stacked on an Old Firm win.

Why not, therefore, treat us to something different and give us a bit of background to one of Britain’s more unique grounds, a hedge for a boundary wall for example.

Oh well, we just have to put up with but surely Brechin could have been given a pay day rather than the money being sucked up solely by the SPL!

Sunday 13 March 2011
Dundee United v Motherwell (Live on Sky Sports) - kick-off 1.15pm
Inverness Caledonian Thistle v Rangers or Celtic (Live on Sky Sports) - kick-off 3.30pm
