How long should a manager get

With Ross County’s Willie McStay being sacked after only nine games in charge it begs the question how long should a manager get.

The decision to sack McStay was made after Saturday's goal-less draw at home to the First Division's bottom side Stirling Albion.

The former Celtic coach failed to win a single game in league and cup competition following his appointment in November last year. The club's director of football, George Adams, has taken temporary charge of team matters.

McStay replaced Adams' son, Derek, as County manager following his predecessor's move to assist Colin Calderwood at Hibernian.

The 49-year-old had recently returned to Scotland after a spell managing Hungarian side Ujpesti Dozsa, with whom Celtic were developing a working relationship.

County say they needed to act quickly to ensure they did not suffer the consequences of relegation.

If McStay was the man back in November why have they not stood by the man they thought was right then. What happens if they get the choice wrong again this time, this could actually make relegation more of a certainty.

Are they now suffering from delusions of grandeur after the excellent efforts of Derek Adams who got them promoted and then last season’s Cup run to boot.

Surely a manager deserves more than nine games to prove himself, otherwise we would have seen Colin Calderwood and Stuart McCall sacked from their jobs already, and Billy Reid hounded out of Hamilton.
