Another disgraceful Old Firm game

Celtic made it through to the Scottish Cup Quarter Finals with a 1-0 win over Rangers who ended up receiving three red cards.

The game had little football of note to report upon as it was overcome by some of the most stupid incidents you will ever see, and it will be interesting to see what action the SFA will take.

It all kicked off when Steven Whittaker was shown a red card in the first half for two reckless free kicks. Rangers were still able to cope with anything Celtic could throw at them.

But the football still took a back seat as Diouf had a bit of a spat on the touchline with Neil Lennon, which saw Walter Smith forced to pull back Ally McCoist before he kicked off in the Rangers dug out.

It all kicked off at half time when Bartley reacted to comments from Celtic coach Johann Mjallby which led to another scuffle as the players headed to the dressing room.

Celtic did get a goal early in the second half when Izaguirre finally got the better of Foster and his deep cross found Wilson at the other edge of the box. His first shot was blocked by Papac on the line, but he somehow managed to get the rebound past McGregor.

Rangers continued to lose their discipline as they struggled to create anything in front of goal. Bougherra seemed to be a man on a mission to pick up a red card and he managed to achieve the feat.

His first yellow card was a needless late tackle on Hooper, and then in the final minutes he was maybe a bit unlucky when he was shown another yellow for a tackle on Wilson.

Then as the game finished Diouf picked up a second yellow for dissent after the final whistle. Even after the final whistle there was more drama in the dug outs.

Neil Lennon went over to shake hands with Ally McCoist only to react angrily to what appeared to be a remark from the Rangers Manager in waiting.

All in all this was another shameful night for Scottish football with the media showing pictures of people in each others faces, and a match with 12 yellow cards which led to three red cards.

As a police chief mentioned earlier in the week these games should maybe be stopped as they are just not worth the hassle, with games of football always seemingly hard to find.
