Is racist debate dead?

A German tourist has put his hand up to throwing the banana during the Brazil v Scotland game at the Emirates on Sunday.

Arsenal have managed to pinpoint the person who threw the banana which spark a racist row after the game.

They issued a statement saying, “After consultation with the Metropolitan Police, Arsenal Football Club can confirm that a German teenage tourist has admitted throwing a banana onto the pitch during the Brazil v Scotland International Friendly at Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

“The youngster was sitting in the North Bank of Emirates Stadium, an area of the stadium which was occupied by the official allocation of tickets to Brazil supporters, when he threw the banana onto the pitch during the second half of the match.

“The Metropolitan Police is satisfied there was no racist intent and have confirmed that no further action will be taken.”

This should not be the end of the matter with either the Brazilian FA or Neymar issuing an apology for the ridiculous accusations made immediately after the game in Sunday.

The Tartan Army have their faults, and apart from songs aimed at our nearest rivals England, they are not racist. We have entertained countries from all over the world at Hampden without any racist incidents.

I have a feeling we will wait for this apology with the Brazilians hoping the whole affair will blow over.
