Squeeky Bum time at both top and bottom of table

Hamilton and St Mirren are locked in a relegation battle while at the top Rangers pile more pressure on Celtic in the SPL.

Hamilton won their first game of the season at New Douglas Park when they beat 10 man Hibs 1-0 with a goal from Nigel Hasselbaink, and moved within three points of St. Mirren who lost away to ten man Inverness thanks to a goal from Adam Rooney.

Hamilton now take on St. Johnstone at McDiarmid Park and Saints travel to Pittodrie to play Aberdeen. On the last day of the season on Saturday Hamilton are at home to Inverness and the Buddies at home to St. Johnstone.

The Perth Saints will therefore have a major say in who will go down or not. It looks to me as though the odds are stacked against Hamilton still, as they have to rely on St. Mirren losing both their games while they have to take a minimum of four if that happens.

In this crazy season we have had you wouldn’t put it past Billy Reid’s side to come through and stay up.

Rangers, watched by new owner Craig Whyte, moved four points clear of Celtic with a comfortable four nil win over Hearts, with Celtic taking on Kilmarnock this afternoon at Rugby Park.

If Celtic lose that one Ranges could seal the title on Tuesday night against Dundee Utd, if not they may have to wait until next Sunday against Kilmarnock themselves.

There was another story being made at Ibrox yesterday with more rumours and speculation around team selection for Hearts. Kello and Zaliukas were left out and rumours are sweeping the internet they have been involved in alleged match fixing.

There have also been stories circulating that Jim Jeffries has left his position as Hearts manager as a result.

If any of this is true it will be an intriguing end to the season….
