Fife shocker in League Cup

Dunfermline and Raith Rovers were tonight beaten by lower League clubs in the League Cup, the Pars losing in a Fife Derby.

A stunning second half strike from East Fife's Scott Dalziel dumped local rivalsDunfermlineout of the League Cup.

The Second Division side were rewarded for an impressive opening when Bobby Linn fired in a fourth-minute strike.Dunfermlinelevelled 10 minutes later as Liam Buchanan slid in to prod home from close range.

ButEast Fifetook a deserved lead again 10 minutes into the second half, with Dalziel crashing a super effort from the edge of the penalty box.

The Premier League visitors almost took the tie to extra-time with the last action of the game but Steven Hislop made a fine goal-line clearance.

Raith Rovers also crashed out to a Second Division side when they went out to Airdrie United who bounced back from a thumping defeat at home on Saturday.

The Diamonds had the better of the first half and were deservedly two goals up at the break. The first came on 28 minutes when Derek Holmes bent a shot into the top corner from 20 yards, and then on half time Donnelly latched on to a defensive mistake to slide the ball under the keeper.

Raith dominated the second half but struggled to create much apart from a Graham header which was cleared off the line by Blockley.

Raith boss John McGlynn couldn’t hide his anger after the game, “The first half was disgraceful and I am disgusted with the attitude. The second half we fought a bit harder but I am livid, raging and not happy at being beaten by a team who showed more fight and spirit.”

Opposing manager Jimmy Boyle was delighted with the turnaround in his sides performance from Saturday, “I am delighted I got the reaction I was looking for, I made changes after being unhappy on Saturday. I thought our performance was excellent and we scored a couple of good goals.”

Elsewhere,Aberdeen,RossCounty, St. Mirren, Hibs and Queen of the South made it through to the Third Round draw.
