A 1-0 win keeps Scotland’s faint hopes alive.

A 1-0 win against Lithuania kept Scotland’s hopes alive of European qualification thanks to a second half goal from Stephen Naismith.

There were four changes to the starting line up from Saturday and the younger players being brought in seemed to sharpen things up. From the startScotlandpushed forward and soon exposed how poorLithuaniaactually were.

Chances were created as Berra volleyed wide at the far post, Cowie shooting over from 20 yards out and then Naismith heading straight at the keeper. The first real save the keeper had to make was when he turned a Fletcher shot from a tight angle round his near post.

As it looked as though it would be 0-0 at half time both sides had chances to score,Caldwellgave the ball away on half way allowingLithuaniato break with three against Whittaker. Radavicius bore down on the box and rather than pick out one of his two team mates he blasted a shot at theScotlanddefender.

With a minute to the breakScotlandwere handed a chance, quite literally when Labukas stuck out a hand to deflect a Bannan free kick for a penalty. With Kenny Miller missing Darren Fletcher stepped up but saw his kick saved by Karcemarskas.

Five minutes after the breakScotlandfinally got the goal they deserved, Goodwillie flicked the ball out to Bannan whose chip into the box was swept into the net by Naismith.

Scotlandhad a couple of chances to seal the win but Naismith headed the best of them over at the front post. Then, not unusually, we were given some heart stopping moments in the last fifteen minutes.

Sub Danilevicius headed wide on a couple of occasions, and then one of the other subs Novikovas sent a dipping shot just over from 20 yards out.

In the end we held on and we not carry slim hopes of reaching second spot into our lat two games withLiechtensteinandSpain, although we will have to take six points from these two away games. Unlikely I would think!
