The SPL takes on a familiar look with the Old Firm taking up places one and two after Saturday’s results

Rangers kicked off SPL Saturday with a trip to Tannadice to take on much changed Dundee United. In the end they made hard work of seeing of a resilient ten man United side.

Rangers did have an early scare with Danny Swanson going down in the box following a challenge from Goian but somehow ref Callum Murray saw it as a dive despite contact with the forward’s leg.

The task for theGlasgowgiants was made slightly easier when Jonny Russell was sent off for a head butt on Kirk Broadfoot.

They finally opened the scoring in the second half just after the hour mark thanks to header from Lafferty following a Wylde cross.

Celtic then followed this up with a comfortable win at home to on form Motherwell. They were a goal up within eight minutes when James Forrest finished a fine move involving Hooper and Stokes.

Motherwell had a load of possession without threatening the goal, and they were punished for this just before the break when Joe Ledley was sent clear to beatRandolphfrom close range.

The visitors started the second half holding the ball well but once again without threatening the goal once again. Ki’s 30 yard strike half way through the half was enough to settle the game once and for all.

Another Forrest strike on the break put the icing on the cake.
