The big shock was that it took East Fife to penalties to beat Aberdeen last night at Pittodrie! While Hibs win at Fir Park….

Aberdeenfell further into crisis when they crashed out of the League Cup last night to Second Division East Fife after a penalty shoot out.

The game had gone to and fro throughout the game, the Fifers took the lead in the first half but were pegged back before half time, the goals coming from Wallace and McArdle.

The Dons took the lead just after the break through Mackie but only held on to the lead for seven minutes when Park equalised, and things got worse for them three minutes later when Floan put them ahead.

The home side forced extra time when Fallon scored a penalty two minutes into stoppage time. There were no further goals in extra time and therefore it was time to make a hero of Ridgers in theEast Fifegoal.

The former Hearts keeper saved three spot kicks to see his side progress 4-3 after the spot kicks.

The Dons now travel toFirParkto take on Motherwell on Saturday in the SPL with all the pressure on Manager Craig Brown.

Up in the North East the Dons fans must be wondering where they go next after hounding out Jimmy Calderwood and Mark McGhee in recent years, can they afford to lose another manager?

Motherwell themselves suffered their own penalty agony when they lost 6-5 to Hibs after drawing 2-2 after extra time. Hibs took the lead early on through Garry O’Connor before Keith Lasley and Michael Higdon had the Well in the lead at half time.

It took until the 88th minute for the Hibees to force a deserved draw and force the game into extra time.

The game went to penalties and Hibs keeper Mark Brown was the hero saving from Murphy and Law to help his side progress to the quarter finals.

The other ties saw Dundee Utd,Kilmarnockand St. Mirren progress to the quarter finals against lower league opposition.
