Rangers move nine points clear at top of SPL

Rangers win over Hibs moved them nine points clear at the top of the SPL, not from Celtic but from Motherwell who are sitting second after a win at Tannadice.

Rangers made it hard for themselves despite dominating Hibs for the bulk of the 90 minutes at Ibrox. They were even handed a gilt edge chance just on half time when Graham Stack brought down Kyle Lafferty, but the normally reliable Steven Whittaker blasted the ball over from the spot.

The home side also had Allan McGregor to thank for an impressive save at the feet of Junior Agogo to keep the scoreline level. The winning goal came on 68 minutes when Kyle Lafffety was on hand to score from a Gregg Wylde cross.

This put the Ibrox side nine points ahead of Motherwell who moved into second with an impressive 3-1 win over Dundee United at Tannadice this afternoon.

The Well took the lead in the 14^th minute with an impressive strike from Keith Lasley which ended an equally impressive team move which must have been about 20 passes long.

It was 2-0 at the break when United keeper Dusan Pernis handed Michael Higdon a gift with a poor kick out. The striker had time to take a touch and drill an angled drive back under the keeper.

Garry Kenneth gifted the visitors a third when he needlessly tripped Nicky Law in the box, and Higdon blasted in his second from the spot. Jon Daly grabbed a consolation from the home side with just under 10 minutes left.

Elsewhere Saint Johnstone kept their impressive run going with a fine 2-1 over Kilmarnock, andInvernesscame back from a goal down to beat St. Mirren 2-1, and move within a point of Dunfermline in second bottom.
