Another summer at home for Scotland

After last night we are consigned to another summer at home, something we have become used to since 1998 when we played in the World Cup in France.

Last night’s 3-1 defeat to Spain in Alicante, combined with the Czech Republic’s 4-1 win in Lithuania means Scotland will be spending the summer at home again for the 6^th tournament in a row.

Our failure to qualify wasn’t down to last night’s result but major failures earlier in the competition.

The first two games, away to the Czechs andLithuania, brought one point out of six while scoring no goals in the process. With Craig Levein’s major blunder of playing 4-6-0 inPrague, limiting the opportunities to bag a goal!

While we did manage to take two wins from Leichtenstein they were only by a single goal on each occasion, and we struggled to beatLithuaniaat home…..

In the end it can only be described as a disappointing “campaign”, but it is over and where we do we go now, what players do we keep, do we keep the manager?

There are only a couple of players I would like to see moved out, they are Gary Caldwell and Kenny Miller.Caldwellis a bit of a bomb scare at the back, while Miller has given great service but I have had enough of his endless running without scoring.

It’s time for Danny Wilson or the boy Hanlon atBlackburnto step up n the centre of defence. Up from it is time for Mackail-Smith and Goodwillie to replace the veteran Miller.

Levein has to stay unfortunately as the SFA have committee to him for the qualification for World Cup 2014. I would rather have seen Billy Davies or Walter Smith in instead of Levein, but it won’t happen.
