What to make of Celtic and Hibs

After last night’s League Cup tie what can you make of the current Hibs and Celtic sides?

Celtic were awful in the first half and were deservedly 1-0 down, and could have been two down if Griffiths was more composed in front of goal when clean through.

The midfield two of Ki and Kayal were anonymous, and Hooper was almost invisible up front. Then there is the defence, they seem to want to find new ways of giving away goals, with the centre backs looking like strangers every week.

Then in the second half after a rant from Neil Lennon at half time they came out and played the second period like world beaters. James Forrest changed his boots and then suddenly looks like a world class striker.

This is the second time recently where Celtic have been poor in the first half and salvaged things in the second. The last time was the 3-3 draw atRugbyPark, when they were three goals down at half time.

I heard on the radio tonight that the half time adjustments show how good a coach Lennon is!! You could argue the other side of that coin and say he should get his side and tactics right at the beginning he wouldn’t need to make the adjustments.

There is a way to go before this side will make great inroads into the ten point lead Rangers have over them in the League at the moment.

Then there is Hibs, they have been inconsistent between games, but this took this to a new level with a degree of consistency within a game!!

Colin Calderwood seems powerless to make sense of it as his after match comments make no sense either! He is now blaming the defence, but maybe he needs to look at the other end where O’Connor and Griffiths let him down last night.

I don’t think the Hibees will get relegated this season but they will struggle to make the top six and this will not be enough for the Hibs fans, or board who have already lost £900k in the last year.

These two “giants” have a bit to prove this season…..
