English Legend in Scottish Hall of Fame

Former England captain Terry Butcher was this weekend voted into the Scottish Football Hall of Fame, is this a good decision or not?

I am not 100% sure why he was selected for entry into the Hall of Fame, I know he won trophy after trophy with Rangers and was successful, in relative terms, at Motherwell andInverness. Is this enough for entry into such an elite club?

There is no more bigger fan of Big Tel than myself after his time at Motherwell, but I don’t think he has done enough to merit entry into the Hall of Fame at the exclusion of more deserving Scots.

This is not an anti English thing, as I know Laudrup and Larsson are already in there, and I don’t really agree with that either!!

If I look closer to home, at Motherwell, where Big Terry was manager, they had a manager who was there for almost two generations spanning the Two World Wars, and winning the Scottish League title in 1931/32, John “Sailor” Hunter.

This legend of Motherwell never seems to get the credit he deserves for breaking the Old Firm deadlock of the 30s and the tours ofSpain, Africa andSouth Americawhich he pioneered.

Sadly it appears it will only be the headline players who will be honoured, and we could soon see Paul Gascoigne enshrined – hopefully not!!! Let’s keep the Scottish Hall of Fame for the Scots who deserve it!
