Celtic keep up the pressure at the top.

Celtic’s 5-0 win over St. Mirren keeps the pressure on Rangers at the top of the SPL ahead of their trip to Kilmarnock today.

The Saints were two down after only eight minutes leaving them a mountain to climb, with the opening goals coming from Samaras and the first of a hat trick for Gary Hooper.

It was two nil at half time, but Celtic ran out comfortable winners, with Hooper adding two more. The fifth came from youngster McGeough who scored a fine solo goal to set a wonderful seal on the afternoon.

This win moves Celtic to within four points of leaders Rangers, when only a matter of weeks a go their title bid was being written off.

Third place Motherwell dropped two points at home to Dundee Utd in a game spoiled by driving wind and rain which prevented either side from creating many chances.

This immediately brought the expected calls for summer football with United boss Peter Houston admitting he is now a convert to the idea, although Well boss Stuart McCall wouldn’t go that far admitting he would rather see games call off when the wind gets to a certain speed.

St.Johnstone kept up their good form with a 3-1 home win against Hibs, who had new boss Pat Fenlon looking on. He will certainly now know the task he has ahead of him!
