Can the current Division 1 Leaders make the jump from the SFL to the SPL by winning promotion this season?
Pre-season favouritesRossCountyhave quietly and efficiently opened up a 9 point game at the top of the First Division and are now favourites to make the step up to the SPL.
This was after prising Derek Adams back from his spell as Assistant Manager at Hibs to be the Manager working alongside his Dad, George, who is Director of Football.
Then in the summer they made some wise acquisitions to add to the squad who had made the Scottish Cup Final. They added Grant Munro and Russell Duncan from neighboursInvernessto add steel and experience to their side.
They have now only lost one game this season and that was away back on the second game of the season when the lost 5-1 away toHamilton.
If they do get promotion this will bring up the age old question of what they will bring to the SPL?
They will need to bring their ground up to scratch, and they have made a commitment they will meet the 6500 seat requirement for their Victoria Ground and not share with Inverness as many thought they might.
Then they will have to overcome the Central belt belief that SPL football should be restricted to a line south ofPerth. This is partly down to the dread of travelling up the A9.
Thankfully this is not a criteria for making the SPL, and it is done entirely on merit. I think they will be a great addition to the top flight and they will have deserved their slot if they go on to win the SFL.
