Is the game going too soft?

With the latest “citings” from the SFA’s compliance officer has the game finally given up on physical contact.

While it is fair to say Jim Goodwin of St. Mirren deserves two games for a punch on Steve Jennings of Motherwell and Peter Pawlett deserves to be given a ban for diving. What did Jennings do to deserve a two game ban in the incident with Goodwin?

Jennings had taken the law into his own hand after just avoiding a wild tackle from David Van Zanten (who has escaped scot free) he put his hand up to ward off a push from Goodwin. It brushes the Saints man in the face and this now merits a two game ban.

Come on, we are having a laugh here!! If this is worth two games on the sidelines, then we will have teams struggling to put out a team on a weekly basis.

I am all for this fast track approach to deal with disciplinary matters but since it all started it would appear to be full of contradictions, for example;

1. Hooper elbows a Motherwell player – no action taken, Jennings hand brushes Goodwin – 2 match ban!
2. Aloku gets a two match ban for diving only weeks after Gary O’Connor was given no ban…
3. Hogg of Inverness’s appeal against a red card turned down despite the TV pictures showing his tackle against Motherwell wasn’t denying a goal scoring opportunity.
4. No action taken against Celtic (or Rangers) for dodgy songs while UEFA fines them for the same thing!

We need to sort this out or our game will become even more of a laughing stock than it is at the moment.
