SPL financial news from Glasgow and Edinburgh

There was more financial news from both Hearts and Rangers today, and we wait to see where things will end up.

Hearts appear to be playing the SPL, they look to have paid the players on time this month with the money leaving their bank during the day.

This would now prevent them from receiving any sanctions from the SPL and it means if there are any future delayed payments a new complaint would need to be made by the players of the SPFA.

The club have been really clever with all of these payments, when there has been a bit of publicity (as in November) and then the investigation by the SPL they have found the money to pay.

This to me would suggest a different approach needs to be taken by the governing bodies. Hearts have been late with the player’s salaries in four of the last five months, surely this is not acceptable in the 21^st Century!

Meanwhile over at Rangers, today was the day the hearings over their disputed £49 million tax bill (including penalties) have resumed this week. The evidence will be heard in private between now and Wednesday.

No decision will be announced this week, with the judgement due to be announced in the next month to six weeks.

If Rangers lose their appeal they will be forced to pay HMRC immediately. This could tip them into administration (as admitted previously by Craig Whyte in various interviews) to ease their financial worries.  

It will be interesting to see how this ends up, and what impact it will have for the rest of Scottish Football. If Rangers go into administration they will be deducted 10 points, leaving them well behind Celtic. They could also be forced to make players redundant which would have a massive influence on their league position.
