Scottish Cup Final to move to Sunday!

The Scottish Cup Final will move to a Sunday from next year breaking over 125 years of Saturday tradition.

Next year’s final will be moved to a Sunday to accommodate due to issues with the Champions League final, as an SFA statement explained this afternoon.

“The oldest cup trophy in world football will be moved from its traditional Saturday slot to comply with new regulations prohibiting a scheduling conflict with the UEFA Champions League final but also to ensure maximum exposure and attendance figures.

“Under the new Champions League guidelines, national associations must not schedule fixtures on the same day as the final, which takes place on May 25 with an evening kick-off. UEFA have offered each Association one-off dispensation, which will allow the William Hill Scottish Cup final to remain, as planned, on May 19 this year with a 3pm kick-off.”

Personally I think this is another kick in the teeth for football fans. The Saturday was always ideal as you could go the game and then either celebrate or drown your sorrows afterwards knowing the next day was not a work day.

Does this mean the punters will now need to look at taking the next day off, which could be a major issues for employers when it is an Old Firm Final!

This game has always been the end of season showcase to our season and has now been hijacked by UEFA who seem to want to shaft everyone by promoting their own tournament to the detriment of the domestic ones.

Hopefully sense will prevail from season 2014 and we get back to normal….
