Inconclusive Scottish Cup weekend

After seven cup ties over the weekend only four of the Quarter Finalists have been confirmed in the Scottish Cup

Celtic were first up on Saturday and won more comfortably againstInvernessthan anyone would have predicted, thanks to goals from Samaras and a Brown penalty.

It was a performance described by Caley’s boss as their worst of the season, and what a time to pick it. The two goals they gave away were terrible with Tokely gifting the first one, and then Proctor giving away a needless penalty.

The biggest winners of the weekend were Motherwell who hammered first division Morton by six goals to nil. Morton turned in one of the worst first halves seen atFirParkfor a long, long time.

Motherwell capitalised and were five up by half time and their progressions was assured. Estonian sensation Henrik Ojamaa scored once again, but the main talking point was Tom Hateley finally scoring from a corner. He has been trying all season and the Morton defence obliged by allowing his ninth minute kick drop in to the far corner.

Hibs took a step closer to their first Scottish Cup win in almost a millennium with a 1-0 home win over Kilmanock, thanks to a goal from Doyle. The major talking point was Kenny Shiels blast at Hibs keeper Graeme Stack being allowed to waste time from the 15^th minute, and abusing the six second rule.

I thought the six second rule had been given up about three years ago, but when you are clutching at straws you will clutch at anything!!

I have already covered Rangers exit elsewhere, and all three of the other games played will need replays.RossCountymissed a penalty with the last kick of the ball that would have seen them beat St. Mirren two one if it had been converted. I am sure the Saints will be looking forward to a trip to Dingwall…..

Aberdeenalmost relived their semi final nightmare of a couple of years ago when the took on Queen of the South at Pittodrie. The Doonhamers took the lead but couldn’t hold out, and once again I am sure the Dons won’t be looking forward to a trip to Palmerston.

Fourth in the SPL played fifth at Tynecastle and not surprisingly Hearts and St. Johnstone could not be separated and have set up a cracker of a replay.

The other game between Ayr andFalkirkwas called off due to the weather.
