Motherwell show the way…

While there is a lot of doom and gloom around Rangers at the moment Motherwell have shown there is life after Administration.

Rangers fans may be fearing for their club at the moment, but back in 2002 Motherwell fans were in a similar position when Chairman and Owner John Boyle took the decision to stop pouring his money down a black hole and put the club into administration.

It was two years before PKF decided the business was in a fit shape to come out of administration, having cut costs and sold off a couple of their top youngsters, James McFadden and Stephen Pearson.

Since then you could argue theFirParkclub have never looked back both on and off the field. They have qualified forEuropeon three occasions, and reached two Cup Finals and finished as high as third in the SPL table.

This has culminated today in the club announcing another excellent set of financial results posting a profit of £541000 on an increased turnover of £5.956million.

This is down mainly to an excellent performance on the park with a top six finish, a trip to the League Cup Semi Final and the Scottish Cup Final.

When coming out of administration John Boyle admitted the days of stupid spending were over and the club would live within its means. You could argue they have been lucky in their choice of manager, but on the other hand this is down to an extensive search and recruitment policy.

They have also gone for a smaller squad but of higher quality, therefore carrying only 16 rather upwards of 20 some may carry.

This story may give the supporters of Rangers some degree of hope for the future, but they will still have more heartache to go through to get there.
