Motherwell consolidate third as Gers stumble

Motherwell’s emphatic 3-0 win over Hearts sees them 12 points three in third, and moves them six points behind Rangers who lost to Kilmarnock

Motherwell moved 12 points clear of Hearts in third after they had thumped theEdinburghside 3-0 this afternoon despite being down to 10 men for most of the second half.

Well were two up at half time thanks to an Andy Webster og and a Jamie Murphy header, and were good value for being two up. In truth this flattered the Jambos with Well dominant throughout, with Darren Randolph having little to do in the Well goal.

Keith Lasley received his second yellow for his second tackle on the odious Ian Black, who had made a meal of both challenges. This was one of the many ludicrous decisions made by ref Alan Muir, who to this observer doesn’t look ready to referee at SPL level.

This didn’t deter the Well as they looked the better side even down to 10 and made it three nil. Estonian sensation Henrik Ojamaa beat almost all of the Hearts midfield and defence to set up Nicky Law to shoot low past MacDonald.

Hearts never looked as though they would score at any time in the game, and didn’t look as though they were a side desperate to make it into third.

At Ibrox, thousands turned out to see Rangers play their first game after going into administration, but they were left disappointed as the visitors won 1-0.

The winner came in only the 12^th minute when Dean Shiels was given space to beat McGregor and that was that. Rangers were later reduced to ten men when Sasa Papac was sent off.

This leaves Motherwell only six points behind Rangers with a game in hand, coming up on Wednesday against Hibs, can Well fans dare to dream of a 2^nd place finish……
