What to do with THE Rangers?

Now we have seen the original Rangers liquated and the new THE Rangers formed, what should happen now?

We are now in for one of the biggest and most historic two weeks in the history of Scottish football, with club chairmen and administrators being asked to make some tough decisions.

There have been weeks of shadow boxing as many stuck their head in the sand hoping the original Rangers would survive through the CVA route of administration. Now that company has been liquidated the SPL chairmen now have to stick their heads above the parapet and decide what to do with The Rangers.

I have already mentioned on here that this is a lose lose situation for them, in the battle of sporting integrity v commercial interest. For what it’s worth I believe the newco needs to have the request for the SPL share transfer turned down.

This is not a punishment as such, but how can you let a club in which now has no financial history, cannot produce accounts for the last five years. It would be interesting to see Charles Green’s business plan, considering he intends to keep the current squad together.

It is this point that bugs me, THE Rangers are now debt free but from what I can see still has the same cost base they had before they went into administration when they were losing £1m per month!

Surely the wage bill needs to be trimmed, players either need to be sold or made redundant to bring those costs down. But in an attempt to maintain support with the Rangers fans this has never even been suggested!

The fixtures will be published tomorrow and Rangers won’t be included as they are no longer members of the SPL. It is time for quick action and decision making to ensure there is no disruption at the start of the new season – do the men at the top have the will to make these decisions?
