Old rivalry to be fought out again next year

Scotland will play England at Wembley next August in a fixture to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the FA.

I am sure this will mean more to those of us north of the border than those in the home counties and shires ofEngland. It will be a chance for thousands of Tartan Army foot soldiers to descend onLondon.

This game has been chosen, and rightly so, as it was the first ever International ever played away back in 1872 with the first game ending in a 0-0 draw. The most recent game was a 1-0 win forScotlandin a Euro qualifier at Wembley in 1999.

Englandstill knocked us out of the tournament having won the first leg at Hampden, but we have had over 12 years of bragging rights when we can shut up the English by stating we won the last game between the countries.

My only slight concern for this game is actually a political one. It will come right in the middle of the campaign for Scottish Independence and this could spark some trouble inLondon.

It could also have a bit of a say in how people vote in that election, there is a link between football and independence in the past. There is a belief our failure inArgentina78 cost the SNP the chance in the referendum of 1979!

It will be a fantastic TV spectacle and will give us something to discuss for weeks ahead of the start of the 2013/14 season.
