Day of intrigue unfolds in Rangers newco saga

Threats, double deals, apologies – all in a days news when dealing with the Rangers newco.

Ahead of the meeting of SFL Clubs at Hampden this morning, Raith Rovers chairman Turnbull Hutton was report to have said the game is corrupt. Says he's been lied to, threatened and bullied.

Hutton has made one of the strongest statements about sporting integrity and stating Rangers newco should apply in the normal way and be accepted into the Third Division and not the First!

This appears to have landed him in trouble with others higher up the food chain who now appear desperate to have Rangers missing from the SPL for only one season by having them accepting into the First Division.

Hutton does not deserve this, it is his opinion while he looks after the best interests of his own club.

Meanwhile we read today Charles Green has been lobbying SPL Chairmen with a view to them changing their votes at the SPL meeting tomorrow. He has dangled a few carrots in front of them, including; points reductions, acceptance of transfer embargo, a public apology!!

This all seems too little too late for me, they had the chance to accept the situation with humility and good grace a while back. Instead they lashed out at everyone, and given behaviour breeds behaviour the others lashed back!

The apology did come today from newco Chairman Malcolm Murray has apologised for the "distress, disruption and difficulty inflicted on the football community".

"We are acutely aware that events at our club, brought about by people who are no longer here, have triggered a crisis in Scottish football."

Again this apology has come too late, and comes from the wrong people, given it was David Murray and Craig Whyte who have landed us in the mess we are in.

I sincerely hope we see an end to all of this after the SPL vote tomorrow and we can look forward to the season getting under way, although I think I must have been saying that for days now!!
