Action back under way in Scotland

After a summer of off shenanigans it is good to have competitive football to talk about, with games in Scotland today, in the Olympics and the Europa League

After all the talk of Rangers/Sevco over the summer, and journalists standing on the steps of Hampden waiting on the latest twist on the saga it is good to report there are journalists inside watching football.

The Olympics kicked off yesterday with the Women’s football at Hampden and today one of the favourites kick off their campaign when Spain take on Japan in the later kick off this afternoon. The afternoon opens withHondurasvMorocco, and it will be interesting to see how many bother to turn up.

Tonight we have St Johnstone at home to Turkish side Eskisehirspor in the second leg of the Europa League Second round qualifier. They are two goals down from the first leg, but at least have the knowledge they have not lost at home inEuropein five games so far.

They know, as do the Turks, a win will set up a huge tie with French giants Marseille. This would be a money spinning tie the Saints would be desperate to secure giving the financial position in Scottish football at the moment.

I have a feeling the Saints can win tonight, but fear it will be a typically Scottish result, and they will lose 3-1 and go out on away goals!

Sadly by the time the weekend comes we will be back talking about Sevco/Rangers as they prepare for their first public appearance since the end of last season. They are due to take onBrechinCityon Sunday afternoon, although that is not a definite yet as they have still to have their SFA membership ratified.

This has already led to the cancellation of a Testimonial game against Kelty Hearts which was meant to be played on Wednesday night.
