Ireland did not miss their Lions stars as they strolled to a easy victory over Japan. Tries from Tommy Bowe, Kevin Maggs, Frankie Sheahan and Simon Best destroyed the home side, however the boot of Kyohei Morita ensured that they would not be white washed.

Ireland quickly raced into a 6-0 lead, thanks to the boot of David Humphreys, and Tommy Bowe scored a try in the 14th minute to extend Irelands lead to 13-3.

Ireland Centre Kevin Maggs, crossed for a try in the 24th minute to allow Ireland to ease into a 24-9 half-time lead.

Two penalties from Staunton, and a try from Frankie Sheehan, which was converted by Staunton, was followed 10 minutes later with Simon Best’s first international try, to leave the final score at 44-12.
