Markus Babbel To End Nine Month Hell

Liverpool and German star Markus Babbel is set for a comeback to training for Gerard Houlliers Men.

Babbel who was struck with Guillan-Barre Syndrome last August, a virus which effects the nervous system was first feared that he would be permanently disabled but the german has battled back and is soon to make his return to training.

Babbel said: "There could always be a setback, but I am almost back, and now it is up to the coach whether he plays me or not."

Babbel, who was given a contract extension while in hospital earlier this year, is sure to be given the full opportunity by Manager Gerard Houllier to get back to full fitness.

He added: "It was a tough period in my life.

"I could not do the things I usually could. I could not even walk for more than 10 metres in one go."

Despite the illness, Babbel claims he never once considered quitting football.

He said: "I have never thought about ending my career. Football and the return to Anfield was my main motivation, and I worked hard for that."
