Macca Tips Reds For Title

Former Liverpool Winger Steve McManaman is backing his old Club to mount a serious title challenge this season.

Macca who came on as substitute in the 2-0 win over The Reds says Liverpool should not "worry too much" about the performance in the game.

Luis Figo and Javier Portillo scored the goals that gave the Madrid side the victory they deserved in the opening game of the Madrid Tournament.

The former Anfield star told www.liverpoolfc.tv: "I thought Liverpool were very good and they worked very hard.

"They've bought very well over the summer and the squad now is very, very strong.

"I wouldn't worry about this game if I was a Liverpool fan. Whether you win 10-nil or lose 10-nil, it won't have any bearing on the outcome of the title in England.

"The players they've brought in look very good and Milan Baros - although bought last season - seems to have improved a lot. He gave us a lot of problems when he came on.

"Liverpool look very strong as far as I'm concerned and they're playing very good football. They were second last season and they've improved their squad this summer, so hopefully they'll get the title this year.

"I've still got a lot of friends there and the title is the one thing that has eluded them for so long so I'm hoping this year will be the year. I want Liverpool to win the league and do well in the Champions League."
