Houllier Backs Winter Break Plan

Liverpool Boss Gerard Houllier is in favour of a winter break . but Houllier says he does not want to see the Premiership cut down to 18 teams.

Houllier currently pre-paring his Liverpool charges for the Community Shield clash on Sunday with Arsenal which will be held in Cardiff.

Houllier said: "I'm very much in favour of a winter break, it's not just a good idea it's a must.''

He added: "I want to keep football over Christmas and the New Year, it is a good tradition and produces atmosphere and excitement, so I would like to see a break starting in January."

The Liverpool Boss though does not want to see one of the best leagues in the world cut down to 18 teams.

The Frenchman continued: "I don't want to get into the discussion of reducing the league in size, that's too political.

"But if you want to have good players you need to pay good players. And to do that you need games.
"If you reduce the number of games, you increase the number of players not playing so I would like to keep 20 clubs - but organise the league a different way."
