VASSELL COULD MOVE TO CITY IN PART-EXCHANGE DEAL

Reports have suggested that Aston Villa striker Darius Vassell could be on his way out of Villa Park as part of a part-exchange deal involving Silvain Distin. David O'Leary claimed it is 'news to me' but failed to rule out the move.

O'Leary has made it clear throughout the summer that he is desperate to secure the services of Silvain Distin but all advances have so far been rejected. It doesn't seem very likely that Villa will be willing to let one of their prized assets leave the club but the fact that O'Leary has failed to rule out the move has added further fuel to the speculation.
When asked about the possible move O'Leary said, "I've not heard anything about that and I don't know where it's come from." He went on to add that it is "news to me" and that he hasn't had any contact with Manchester City over the last few days.
Although Silvain Distin would be a valuable signing, Villa can't afford to let one of their star players leave. With Mellberg and Laursen set to form the central defensive partnership this season and Liam Ridgewell providing the back-up, Villa don't desperately need another centre back.
As a Villa fan, I can't help but feel that if Vassell was to leave the club, it would prove to be a major loss. Due to this, Villa must fend off any advances for the England international and should forget about Silvain Distin if a cash offer is not good enough for Manchester City.
